Text

Gespräch zwischen Martin Heidegger und Chang Chung-yuan [Zhang Zhongyuan] in Freiburg.
Chang Chung-yuan : I asked Professor Heidegger, "In your work The end of philosophy and the task of thought you conclude that the study of 'lichtung' will be an important task for future thought. Is it correct to say that your new way of thinking concentrates on the development of the philosophy of 'lichtung' ?" Heidegger answered, "That is correct'". I continued, "'Lichtung' is the opening and clearing from which illumination derives. This 'lichtung' in the Taoist sense is 'Ming'. Thus from the Eastern point of view we can understand your new approach as identifying with the attainment of 'Ming'." Heidegger answered, "That is correct".
