1 1922-1923 George R. Twiss arrived 1922 in Beijing to become Director of Science Education for the Chinese National Association for the Advancement of Education (Zhong hua jiao yu gai jin she). In spring 1923 he travelled throughout the southern Jiangsu region and was teaching during the summer at the National Southeastern University. He then returned to Beijing. Twiss had presented 176 lectures and conferences, had inspected 190 schools in 24 cities and 10 provinces.
