A.F.P. Hulsewé ist Dolmetscher eines holländischen Kapitäns in Surabaya (Indonesien) und kommt in japanische Gefangenschaft. Er wird von der britischen Armee befreit und geht nach Singapore wo er im Chinese Affairs Office of the British Military Administration arbeitet.
