Gründung der Nanyang Public School (Nanyang gong xue), der späteren Shanghai Jiaotong-Universität in Xujiahui, Shanghai durch Sheng Xuanhuai und John Calvin Ferguson. Sie ändert 1904 den Namen in Imperial Polytechnic College of the Commerce Ministry ; 1906 in Shanghai Industrial College of the Ministry of Posts and Telegraphs ; 1912 in Government Institute of Technology of the Communications Ministry ; 1920 in Nan Yang College of Chiao Tung ; 1928 in First Chiao Tung University of the Communications Ministry ; 1938 in National Chiao Tung Universität ; 1949 in Shanghai Jiaotong-Universität.
